Custom Climb Gaddy, 4/21 and 12 day Mountaineering Course, Emerson 4/18

AMS guides Nate and Elias, along with Elliot are holding down the fort out in the field this week.

Everyone in the Alaska Range is doing well with good supplies and with plenty of shoveling/runway packing to do. The weather hold for flying out continues, although today in Talkeetna the skies have brightened. This will be great mountain experience for the climbers in the Ruth and Kahiltna, we look forward to hearing their stories upon their return!

Custom Climb Gaddy, 4/21

AMS Guide Elliot Gaddy and Martin Davis made an attempt on Freezy Nuts in the Ruth Gorge yesterday.  Freezy Nuts is a steep couloir on the Werewolf that has been growing in popularity over the years.  First climbed in 1996, it is known for it's deep, unconsolidated snowpack.

Elliot and Martin decided to turn around just before the couloir narrowed due to poor snow conditions.

12 Day Mountaineering Course, 4/19 Emerson

AMS lead guide Nate Emerson and team departed basecamp on the Kahiltna glacier at 7,200' on April 22 to traverse towards the Pika glacier. The photo above is from a previous team doing a similar trip, the photo is departing the Kahiltna Glacier. This trip is an awesome experience and amazing way to see the mountains of Denali National Park!

As this afternoon, the team has decided to turn back towards basecamp to find different climbing objectives on the Kahiltna. This is a great learning experience, balancing weather forecasts and crevassed terrain, etc. The team is well prepared and self sufficient.

Custom Climb Gaddy, 4/21

AMS Guide Elliot Gaddy and Martin flew to the Ruth Glacier this afternoon.  They had a busy morning getting ready.  They were looking forward to getting some great climbing in and enjoying the beauty of the mountains.

AMS Guides Nate Emerson and Elias Holt were excited to be leading our first course of the season.  The team enjoyed great spring weather as they prepared to fly.  They were efficient packing lunches and gear checking.  They were ready to head to the airport early.

This will be an incredible course they are flying to the SE Fork of Kahiltna. They plan to establish camp and spend the next few days learning and practicing rope skills, glacier travel, self arrest. One of the team's goal will be to traverse to the Pika glacier, which is about 15-20 miles, among other snowy climbs in and around the Kahiltna.

AMS Glacier Trek, Bomba 4/7

Our season is off to a great start, blue skies and happy team.  AMS Guide Chelsea Bomba and team departed for the Ruth Glacier for a 3 day Glacier Trek.  They were quick and efficient packing lunches and gear checking.

They will have amazing views from their location.  The plan to do some general touring around the glacier and reach the mouth of the gorge.

Expedition Availability

Its another beautiful day in Talkeetna!  Spring is in the air with 40 degree days and 20 degree nights - we are excited because the climbing season is beginning.  Today, AMS Guide Chelsea Bomba is packing to lead a 3 Day custom glacier trek. Director Colby Coombs and Operations Managers Josh Hoeschen and Larry Holmgren are busy organizing and inspecting gear. Office staff is emailing and shuffling paperwork and digital files at a rapid pace.
