The June 16 Custom Denali Expedition, led by Ben Olwell and Will Plovanic, moved to the 11,000-foot camp very easily last night. They will rest today, and this team is strong and feeling good. They plan to carry and cache at 13,500 tomorrow.
June 16: Peaks for Pia Expedition, led by Nickel Wood and Luke Piatt, are carrying all their gear in shorter, single moves, and it's working well for them! They camped at 9,262 feet on the Kahiltna Glacier last night and plan to move up to the 11,000-foot camp tonight.
Climbers nearing 11,000 camp
June 19 Alpine Climbing Course led by Tali Levin is doing well and is established on the Pika Glacier. They will be practicing and discussing safe glacier travel, crevasse rescue, self-arrest, rock gear, and protection today, as well as multi-pitch climbing flow and climbing movement. These reviews are a great way to get on the same page about safety and to fill in any gaps in knowledge. They will begin vertical climbing objectives very soon!
June 20, 12-Day Mountaineering Course led by Claire Bicknell, Evan Clupper, and Intern Morgan Harris is doing well on the Pika Glacier; they will be at this basecamp for a few nights as they learn glacier travel, crevasse rescue, and travel skills before moving camp. They will also learn the finer details of snow camping, cooking, weather, and mountain movement.
