The June 8th Expedition led by Tate Hughes, Emma Russell, and Nick Bakken-French began yesterday with a detailed gear check and careful lunch food packing in the afternoon. Today, they were very well organized. They had a busy day, complete with an NPS briefing, fixed-line ascension practice, and a hearty lunch at the AMS HQ. They weighed and packed their gear, loaded the van, and headed off to Talkeetna Air Taxi right on time.
They landed on the glacier (with the fine pilots and ski planes from Talkeetna Air Taxi) at Kahiltna Basecamp at 3:30 PM for clear skies and cool temps. If all conditions allow, they may move out to camp one at 7,800 feet tonight.
They are lucky to have Alumna Monika on this team; she knows all the AMS systems and will be a great help to everyone as they get underway for the next few days. There is always a settling-in period to life on the glacier and amongst the massive Alaska Range.
